Part 4: Art is to Counterbalance us Psychologically

[In this blog, when I use the word — “art”, I encompass fine arts, music, dance and poetry.]

One of the reasons why most artists die poor is because they are unable to sell the purpose of their art to the buyer.

The questions being — “Why should I buy it?” OR “What will it do for me?” OR “How will it help me?”

For most other professionals — an engineer, an investment banker, a doctor and a lawyer, the products and services they offer are more towards the tangible, objective and quantifiable end of the spectrum.

Artists are not the only ones who face this problem. Psychologists and Philosophers, too are very similar to artists when it comes to ultimately proving a tangible and objective value to their services and products. Hence they too usually lead a poor and painful life.

However, this is not to say that their services do not have any value. In fact they have a lot of value. But because these services and products by nature are subjective, so a measure of their value too is subjective.
